They cut my Camaro into pieces and buried it in a backyard.

I worked three jobs and spent an entire year and $10,000 turning my Camaro into the fastest car at my high school. It was my pride and joy, built with countless hours of hard work, determination, and sacrifice.

Then, one morning, it was gone.

During a race, the rear-end housing had cracked, leaking gear oil and eventually causing the gears to seize. When the car was stolen, the rear end was still locked up, leaving drag marks all the way down the street.

A week later, the same guys who had helped me build it were all driving Camaros.

I later discovered that my Camaro was so unique and recognizable that the thieves couldn't risk keeping the body intact. So they cut it into pieces and buried it in a backyard to hide the evidence.

That experience taught me one of life's hardest lessons about trust, loyalty, and betrayal. But it also taught me something even more valuable: people can take away what you've built, but they can never take away the determination, work ethic, and drive that allowed you to build it in the first place.

So I started hunting fraudsters for a living.

I became a private investigator, specializing in workers' compensation fraud (subrosa investigations). My days often started as early as 4 a.m., conducting surveillance in some of Southern California's toughest areas, from Compton to San Bernardino and throughout Riverside County.

The job involved everything from surveillance, undercover operations, and skip tracing to narcotics investigations, detailed report writing, case preparation, and courtroom testimony.

I learned how to track people down, uncover the truth, build a solid case, and, most importantly, understand how people behave when they think nobody's watching.

I invented a revolutionary tracker, and got screwed by my supplier.

I got tired of watching GPS companies charge customers monthly fees, so I decided to do something about it. I created and developed one of the first passive GPS tracking systems with automatic data downloads and no monthly fees.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer made a minor modification to my design and turned around and sold it to my biggest competitor.

I helped grow a company from $2M to over $10M and got screwed again.

I swallowed my pride and took a sales job, starting at the very bottom with the worst leads in the room. Through hard work and determination, I helped grow that company into a $10 million business, all on the promise of a $1 million payout when the company sold.

When that day finally came, I walked away with nothing.

That's when it really hit me. I had spent too much of my life putting blind trust in people and believing their word was as good as mine. It was a hard lesson, but one I would never forget.

So I bet on myself.
