Which tracker goes on what?
Pick by what powers the asset: an engine, the equipment tracker; a trailer that moves, a solar tracker; something that sits with no power, a battery unit; a truck or a van, a plug-in or hardwired fleet unit. Most contractors end up with two or three kinds; a GPS Expert will sort a mixed yard with you in twenty minutes.
How is the monthly service billed?
The store charges the device only. The monthly service is a separate line item, stated on each card, in the cart, and again at checkout, before you pay. On the fleet units it is $15.98 a month per vehicle, billed on the 1st of each month, with no contract.
What happens when a battery tracker’s battery runs out?
The battery-powered units are long-life and disposable: the internal battery is not rechargeable or replaceable. At the end of its service life the unit is recycled and a new one is purchased. That is what keeps the device price low, with no wiring, charging or battery swaps along the way.
3-year or 5+ year?
The 3-year unit is ultra-compact and reports two locations a day, with 5-minute reporting while it moves as an option. The 5+ year unit carries a 9,000 mAh battery, reports four locations a day, and adds remote device management, for $10 more. Battery life on both depends on configuration and on how often the unit reports; time in recovery mode shortens it.
Is there a warranty?
The equipment tracker, the solar trackers and the fleet units carry a three-year device warranty. On the battery-powered units the warranty covers a defective device: they are disposable, so a unit whose battery is spent — including one left in recovery mode until it dies — is replaced rather than claimed.
These units are sold cheaper for buy-here-pay-here. Why?
Same hardware, two different tracking platforms. The construction units are set up on the construction platform and carry the monthly service on this page; the buy-here-pay-here units are set up on a separate platform built for lenders, with prepaid service instead. You are welcome to buy both — it is two platforms, not one.
Do you install?
The battery units and the solar trackers mount without wiring, and the plug-in unit takes a minute. The hardwired fleet unit goes behind the dash on the vehicle’s power: any installer. The equipment tracker wires to the machine’s 12 V or 24 V power — three wires, power, ground and ignition, so any installer can do it; optional install and trip charges are quoted.
