E-LOGS MANDATE APPROVED BY THE WHITE HOUSE FOR NOVEMBER 2015
A new FMCSA federal rule is requiring A Class vehicle operators to use electronic logging devices to keep records of their Hours of Service (HOS). The final version of the rule, which has cleared the White House’s Office of Management and Budget will take effect two years after its publication in the Federal Register. This gives business owners & A Class vehicle operators two years to comply with the new requirements. The proposed version of the rule was published March 13, 2014. It calls for all drivers that are currently required to keep paper records on their HOS to equipe their vehicles with a electronic logging device as they will now fall under the new ELD rules & requirements mandate.
In addition to requiring the installation and use of an electronic logging device, the mandate also specs the minimum hardware and software requirements for the device

The rule also outlines several provisions to try to prevent the devices from being used to harass drivers, such as carriers messaging drivers during off-duty time and limits on location tracking. The OMB’s released this mandate just a few days after it said it would impose expensive fines on companies who pressure drivers to break federal safety rules such as hours-of-service (HOS) regulations.
