Tips for using it

  • Walk the truck the same way every time, front to back, so a skipped item stands out.
  • Write down every defect you find, even a small one; it gives the shop a record to work from.
  • Do the air brake checks with the engine running and wheels chocked.
  • If you write up a defect, note who you reported it to and when.

Questions

Is this the same as a DVIR?
No. A pre-trip checklist is the inspection you do. The driver vehicle inspection report (DVIR) is the written report of defects. We have a separate free DVIR form.
Can I use this for the CDL skills test?
It follows the usual pre-trip order, but your state's CDL manual is the list the examiner uses. Study from that manual.
Can I save it as a PDF?
Yes. Press Print or save as PDF and choose Save as PDF as the printer.
