A blank field means NHTSA has no data for it, not that the vehicle lacks it.
How to tell a Volkswagen VIN
The first three characters of a VIN are the world manufacturer identifier (WMI): they name the company that built the vehicle. Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle, the 9th is the check digit, the 10th is the model year, the 11th is the plant, and the last six are the serial number.
VINs starting with these codes were registered with NHTSA by Volkswagen's manufacturing companies.
Six-character codes belong to smaller manufacturers: they share a three-character code ending in 9 and add three more characters in positions 12 to 14.
